  1. Continuing with what appears to be my favorite subject, I found this robot story about these robot valets they are putting in this one airport parking lot. I like this. The only problem is it is the car-thief version of a drone lol.
  2. I love robot/computer/AI news so here is a recent article I found that I think is of interest. Computers & the like aren't really smart or dumb-they just are [with the exception of Windows 10 which just sucks but anyway]. So apparently this particular AI was supposed to be taking satellite imagery and making Google maps out of it. It did that, but it cut a few corners and wrote the data into a form our simple eyes can't read. I actually laughed so hard when I read this. I use Google maps all the time. Not 100% on-board with their politics but I absolutely respect the work they have done and they certainly make my life more enjoyable. Yva's First rule of coding: AI will do EXACTLY what you tell it to do. Yva's 2nd rule of coding: if it's not working, you're doing it wrong. There are mechanical failures /electrical interference/ my-desk-is-a-portal-to-the-Bermuda-triangle situations that cancel out those 2 rules but AI "thought" is basically just coded logic and order of operations.
  3. I read this article on MSN about some of the apparent biases that are behind AI and algorithms. I have known that facial recognition software has had a history of limited color pallet it can manage but not sure about some of the other points. Which reminds me, where’s my female avatar CIG?!?!
  4. I love robot posts so here is another. I was reading this article on ZD net that talks about current jobs robots are replacing people at. I have one of those robot vacuums and I just couldn't live without it. I want that gardening one! I have to say I am sad to see the cashier jobs being taken over by computer. There is a fast-food place near me that is installing the computer-only cashiers. There are a lot of people who rely on entry-level positions to pay their bills.
  5. I just read this strange article about a robot in Saudi Arabia getting citizenship there. I had a friend who lived in Saudi Arabia while her husband worked the oil fields and she would tell me about how women were second class there and didn't have the same rights as men. So this is really interesting to me that a robot would be granted citizenship. As a side note, I don't want my robot to look human but that is just me.
