  1. I'm working on Apothecary so if anyone needs anything made let me know. If I have the mats I'll whip it up!

Around 125 now and working up the skill as I level.

    -Yrkon

I finally started working on this as well.

  2. Is anyone else like counting down the hours till we can play? I am and it's driving me crazy I was wondering if anyone else is crazy like me. :s50:

    Get - A - Life...

    Love,

    Dad

  3. I changed my vote as I will be playing a Rogue. I played the melee cleric and it was awesome as a PvE toon - hardly ever died - but it's just not my calling.

I've made (with my son's help) 4 Rogue roles that are well planned out and should do very well. This is assuming Trion doesn't nerf/change too many of the Rogue skills for tomorrow's release. We've made a 1) Ranged DPS role that will rock in both PvE and PvP, 2) Healer/Support role - IF we really need me to play it, 3) A sneaky/teleporting melee role, and 4) A teleporting sniper (just for fun). This last role will most likely be changed out for a true PvP soul later on.

Two new things I've learned over the last couple of days:

    1. Watch the wording on the skills. What I thought was a nice "+5% physical dmg bonus" from one soul would not actually work with my main melee attacks on my primary soul because it does Life dmg. That physical dmg bonus would only work with skills that said "weapon plus physical damage", not a skill that says something like "weapon plus Death damage". Watch out for those!

    2. You may have to change things up as you're leveling. My primary role of Ranged DPS starts out with Ranger/Bladedancer/Marksman (14/?/? skill pts) until lvl 31 and at level 32 I have to switch it over to Marksman/Nightblade/Bladedancer (51/15/0 skill pts). What we found out with our research is that some skills become useless at higher levels or other skills would be better for a higher level toon (in my case). This is another thing you'll have to keep an eye on. E.g., say a skill that takes away 100 armor at lower lvls won't really mean anything at higher levels with the amount of armor people will be having. And you need to take a look at that skill's Ranking levels to see what that skill would be doing for you at it's higher Rank levels.

If you have a role that you like playing, but it doesn't seem to be doing what you were hoping for, get with someone in the guild to help out and put a second set of eyes on the build. It's little things like the two I just listed that can change your average role into one that stands out and gets noticed.

    See you in there!

  4. During the final beta my primary role was melee cleric and the toon absolutely rocked in PvE. At level 29, my Attack Power was over 300 (about 40 extra DPS), my Parry was around 620 (20%+ chance of no dmg), and my armor was a little over 2300 (can't remember what dmg reduction was). I was able to solo all PvE areas, able to take on multiple targets in melee, and solo many of the elite creatures. The class combo was Justicar/Shaman/Druid. Heavy Justicar, other pts into Shaman, and no pts in Druid (pet just for extra attack & heal). The Justicar Salvation skill healing me for 25% of the dmg done with Justicar skills was outstanding. They also have a skill that would regen mana with each melee hit. This is definitely a self-sufficient PvE killing machine.

I wish I was able to get it higher in level to add the additional Shaman Melee bonuses (to include a Charge-the-enemy) skill. Guess I will just get to do that in the live release...

  5. During the last beta I finally paid close attention to my character stats and how item bonuses affected your stats. Here are a couple of things for everyone:

    1. If you want to know what attribute affects which stat, just pull up your Character Sheet and go to the Stat page. On this page you can mouse-over any attribute/stat name and it will tell you what it affects. Since I played a Cleric in this last beta I found out that INT gives you your Max. Mana, Spell Crit Rating, & a little boost to Spell Power. While WIS affects your Mana Regen & gives a big boost to Spell Power.

    2. As you get new equipment with attribute/stat bonus, pull up your character stat page and then equip the item. You can see how that item affects your stats. I would cycle between two items several times (if I wasn't sure which one I wanted to go with) to make sure I was getting the biggest bang for my buck for the way I wanted to run my character. Now, don't forget that if you change roles you just might want to keep the other item because that will give better support for the other role than the current item is giving. I regretted selling something a couple of times...

    3. If you are a melee type character, DON'T leave your ranged weapon slot empty!!! Even though you don't use the item, the attribute/stat bonuses on that item DOES affect your overall attributes/stats! I have verified this. Try it yourself with the character sheet active and equipping/unequipping the ranged weapon. The same should be true for ranged type characters and having melee weapons slotted.

  6. So I heard some QQ from someone about a melee cleric build not doing so hot in PVP, so I went and made a slight change to your ranged cleric dps build that focuses on instant cast spells and dots dealing mostly death damage.

    My Ranged Cleric DPS

It has a couple heals and a bit of extra mana from the Warden, as well as a knockback, that's all that was for.

The Cabalist is to add some % to the damage output, while giving a nice twist being able to get some lurking decay stacks and a power sigil to insta cast an obliterate for some crazy burst damage every minute, which is the biggest damaging spell of this build. It also gives you access to another couple dots, an aoe, a root, and an anti-silence/interrupt. I have no intention of using either of the two skills that are not insta cast though with this build, as casting takes too long for impatient people like me :s43:

    The Inquisitor.

While things are on cooldown, spamming vex is the way to go, while throwing in a sanction heretic for a 20% chance to turn bolt of depravity into an insta cast dot, which all the passives multiply into those kinds of skills like crazy. It also gives another insta cast channeled life drain spell which slows the enemy and does some ok damage. Other than that its some nice aoes, a few more dots, another knockback, some tricks to cause the enemy to take 14% more magic damage, a nice fear, another slow, the ability to cancel enemy buffs, and a 100% crit on the next skill move **Cough**Obliterate**Cough**.

It's mostly being able to keep the damage going, throwing some big bursts in, staying alive, and doing some serious aoe dot/cc moves. I honestly don't know how the lurking decay stacks work or level in damage, but if it works like I know pacts/convictions do it should make a nice big boom for you down the road. :s52:

Maybe some slight mana conservation issues... but who knows maybe pots work at endgame.

This is similar to what I came up with and I didn't even get around to reading your post until now. The build does pretty nicely in PvP. In Warfronts:Codex I had 34 kills and 3 deaths with my lvl 28 version of this. Having 2 knockbacks was definitely nice for alternating between to keep the warriors away (The fear helped too...lol). I didn't really have any mana issues. The Inquisitor Agressive renewal was giving back mana and Harsh Discipline & Vex w/ Contempt (and Mental Resilience) was healing me.

On a side note, I'm not sure how they calculate kills in the Warfront matches. I know that I had an ok amount of kills, but I'm thinking that if you had a hand in any of the kills, then you got credit. I was thinking that I had more like 12-15 actual kills and the rest were assist kills.

  7. LOL! This had me cracking up. I beta test to have fun and get a taste of a game, also to find bugs, but that must have been one helluva fun time you had there haha

It was a riot down in Freemarch! I actually got into the RP aspect as I was yelling that the Guardians have arrived and the Defiants don't deserve to live on this world. And they should repent for their sins to the gods now! LOL

The fun lasted about 30 minutes. I was easily able to kill about 10-12 NPCs (a couple were mission givers! lol) with little problem. So when the generic NPC 1-shot'd me and my pet at the same time I knew something was up.

It was pretty neat. And the one zone to the NW of Freemarch had rain falling most of the time (which looked really cool) and thunder going off ocassionally. I wish they had lightning with it too. That would be awesome to see & hear together.

  8. I'm not sure what our guild leaders have planned for us in the Live release. But I thought since the previous poll (PvE or PvP Server) clearly has the majority picking PvP as the server type, that I would narrow it down to WHICH PvP server.

I personally think that Deepstrike is a pretty cool PvP server name. I also like Reclaimer. For this final beta test I plan on rolling up my cleric toon that I will be playing in the Live version so I can get a good playing strategy developed for it. I have messed around on Deepstrike already, so I will be on that PvP server for the last beta round.

For our world-wide guild members, you can select "Settings" on the initial login screen and change which server (US/EU) that you want to play on. This will allow everyone to play on the same server no matter where you live.

Remember, this poll is for which PvP server we will be on for the LIVE (Feb 24th/Mar 1st) Release.

  9. From what I have read...you can only change your PvP Flag while in a Major city and then only after a cooldown period. Cooldown works both ways.

Also, I believe I also read that even on a PvP server, you can turn your PvP flag Off...but I haven't yet seen that verified.

If I could turn off my PvP flag on a PvP server while I'm trying to complete a specific quest without having to keep looking back over my shoulder that would seal the deal for me and I would have no problem playing on a PvP server. Your normal daily quests or ones that don't deal with the story line, and even Rifts, I don't care about and I could stay flagged for PvP. But when I'm trying to unlock more souls, or doing a story line quest, I would like to have some "peace-and-quiet" to complete them.

You have my hopes up Gnume!

  10. Here is a great overview of the history of Telara:

    Telara History

Now I understand what's going on and why I'm playing a character in RIFT.

    Cliff Notes:

    1. Guardians: Dummies for destroying the Ward with Defiant technology and causing Rifts. Good guys if you're playing them = Defiant are bad guys.

    2. Defiants: Dummies for creating technology that could destroy the Ward. Good guys if you're playing them = Guardians are bad guys.

    3. Rift Creatures/Regulos: Evil (no matter which faction you play). Everyone is trying to close the Rifts and seal the Ward.

    4. Normal animals: Only Neutral creatures around. Even NPCs are sided either Guardians or Defiant.

Feel free to link more detailed/specific stories about Telara in this thread. To know the history is to shed light on your purpose in RIFT...and really brings the game to life when you play it.

  11. Here is a wiki link about crafting:

    Crafting Link

Looking at the diagram, I think I will be an Apothecary with Foraging and Butchering. That will make me self-sufficient in making potions for the guild. I will try to get the crafting skills up as fast as possible so I can have a supply of good potions to pass out.

For those that don't want to actually craft (Manufacturing Professions), PLEASE pickup the three Gathering Professions so you can at least get the guild raw materials for us crafters. It also looks like you could pick up any of the other professions (except Apothecary) as well, as they would allow you to breakdown the crap gear into raw materials.

You can stack 50 raw materials per slot, so it shouldn't (hopefully) take up too much room in your backpacks. Everytime you go to a village, dump them in the guild bank (if it's active by then) or mail them to a crafter.

  12. Wouldn't they have to wait like 5 min before turning it off, or at least still be PVP flagged for 5 min even if they do turn it off?

I do believe there is a 5 min cooldown period. But by the time we respawn or get a group together to go after them, they could be back under PvE mode once we catch up to them.

I need to play the heck out of Astrus' Cleric melee build during this final beta and really get into the PvP matches. I guess you can call me a PvE type person nervous about being on a PvP server.

  13. I have found that on a PvE server you can flag yourself as being in full-time PvP mode. During the last beta I forgot that I turned this on and as I was running around I got slammed by 2 guys. What caught me off guard is that PvP player names are the same damn color as NPC names. So when I first saw them I didn't think PvP, I thought NPC. And by that time I was ready to respawn...

Technically we could play fulltime PvP on a PvE server, but we would be limited to only attacking other players that are also flagged for PvP.

PROS: Everyone could play together on one server and if they want to PvP, turn the flag on, if not, stay PvE only, or just join the warfronts to PvP with us.

CONS: Any bastards that gank a PvP flagged person could then turn around to switch back to a PvE flag so we can't get "even" with them.

Honestly, I'm still undecided on this issue. Most of the time I enjoy completing quests and taking in the story (and scenery) without having to watch my back. But there are times when you come across a jerk or guild full of them and I just want to open up a can of whoop-*butt*.

  14. Astrus,

Your melee build has me very interested. Here is just a slight change on it.

    My Cleric Melee Build

The thing I have to check into is whether I want to take the Shaman's Thick Skin or the Justicar's Shield of Faith. They both do the same thing, but for the Shaman it unlocks the Courage of the Jaguar. I'm not sure if this skill will stack with Druid's Summon: Satyr (or even the Justicar's Cavalier skill). If it doesn't, then I would take the Justicar's version which would unlock Righteous Mandate so I could use it to possibly keep heals on a weaker team/raid member.

This might be the build I go with for the Live release. I have been mainly playing a Ranger/Marksman/Assassin, which I have a lot of fun with, but I have to admit I not very good at kiting. So if I can't do that (and it would be required for a PvP server), I would rather stand toe-to-toe with the enemy while being able to buff/heal others.

  15. I think I might have found a better Soul Builder. This one is actually updated with the skills we had during Beta 6.

    Better Soul Builder?

Don't forget to scroll down below the soul trees. It gives a great breakdown of all the skills you'll get from that build.

AND... if you go to the main page link below, click on "Wiki", then "Callings", and then drill down to a specific soul, you can get the exact damage/abilities for that soul's skills based on what RANK to upgrade them to. Very nice!

    Very Nice RIFT Web Site

  16. So I was browsing the RIFT forums and I completely missed this the other day. I think I was too excited to play once I got my invite that I forgot to keep viewing the forums.

They changed a LOT of stuff for the beta 6. The list is so long that they had to use 5 seperate posts to list everything. Needless to say, the RIFT Soul Planner we all have been using is now completely worthless. I will be searching for an updated one and will post a link to it as soon as I find one.

It's good to see that they are listening to us beta testers and I just hope this kind of customer support continues after they go live.

Here is the link with all the changes for this last beta we just did:
