Hello all, and thank you for having me! I am...

N0cturnal88, at least for now.  I say that because I'm not 100% if I'm set on this name in Star Citizen yet  ?

Long post alert!  My name is Kirk, I'm 30, and I live in Texas with my wife.  We recently bought a house a few months ago and are loving life, but have no kids yet.  I work at Microsoft full time at our office here in Las Colinas (Irving), Texas.  Texas is home for me and I wouldn't live anywhere else.  I love to tinker on computers and cars, and enjoy dabbling in music/video production from time to time, though I haven't consistently gotten back into audio/video since I joined the Marines.  My fun car is a 2015 Volkswagen GTI that was making 450HP to the wheels, but I am currently in the middle of having the head ported and slapping on a bigger turbo for 550 HP to the wheels  ?

I was in the US Marine Corps for four years as an Infantryman and got out 2.5 years ago.  I was stationed in Southern California and did two deployments with the 31st MEU out of Okinawa, Japan, where we floated around the Pacific on a Navy aircraft carrier for months at a time as a force of readiness.  (Everyone was getting pulled out of the sandbox when I joined, unfortunately).  It wasn't what I signed up for, but I did get to see many great places around that side of the world, such as Australia, Hong Kong, Guam, Japan, and Singapore as well, and it ended up being a very good experience for me as it helped me land my job at Microsoft.  Our platoon was chosen as the Maritime Raid Force during our deployments as well, so I got a lot of great training and can now shoot stuff really well.  ?

I began playing Star Citizen exactly a week ago after finally building a new PC (old one was many, many years old).  I received a recruitment e-mail from your Org and, after watching all of the videos, was quite impressed with the organization and the dedication you seem to possess.  I feel Star Citizen will be a "whatever you make it" kind of game, and having comrades to your left and right to experience it with you is crucial.  I took a few days to experience SC in its current state and contemplate committing to an org, and did a little digging on a few others.  I don't take commitment lightly, so wanted to be sure I could get behind whatever org I chose.  Getting a recruitment e-mail a couple of days after joining SC from only your org and one other out of the hundreds certainly speaks for itself as to your commitment to actively improving your org.  After seeing your Mumble channel I thought I'd hop on and see if there was anyone I could speak with.  After a while Shawkorrr logged in and we talked over the next hour or so, and ultimately invited me to the event yesterday.

I was thrilled to be allowed to tag along yesterday, cruise around Stanton, and experience all of the shenanigans in the Hurston forest with several of you!  I had a blast, and this was exactly what I was looking for in an org.  It was certainly enough for me to confirm that this org is something I could commit to, which I don't take lightly.  I wouldn't make this overly-long post about myself if I didn't want to really be a part of this organization. So, after filling out the application, I'm happy to say that I am a member of this prestigious guild/organization as of yesterday.  Again, thank you for having me!

I very much look forward to meeting more of you and experiencing the training and further shenanigans in the future.  I will try to join events as much as I can.  I work the evening shift, so I'm working from around 12PM to 8-9PM CST (UTC-6) which usually translates to me staying up very late.  Please let me know if there is anything I can help with, I am always happy to share any knowledge I have, whether that be with computers, cars, shooting stuff, Star Citizen, or otherwise!

See you in the Verse!

Hey! I am also new here and you could see me at the event you mentioned. It was great time exploring the forest of Hurston with you and others.

I was kinda wondering if you have any pieces of advice for me about shooting. I bought airgun Perun 734 (made in Slovakia) not a long time ago. It's not like real gun. You don't even have to own arms licence for such weapon but it's for sport shooting or for recreation. I have some practice targets. I am shooting at 15 meters distance for now. After some time I want to shoot at 30 meters. The thing is I know nothing about shooting so if you could give me just some basic points I would be more than happy. ?

I have like 50% chance to hit dark area on the target (14cm x 14cm). These are my best targets at 15 meters so far. Thanks. ?

Hey Wingusko!  Yes I remember seeing you there.  So, an air gun!  I would think most of what I know should translate to that.  There is quite a bit that goes into getting good, consistent shots, like your grip on the rifle, your breathing, and even where you focus while you aim.  So a few pointers...

First of all, when aiming, try to focus on the front sight instead of target itself.  Secondly, make sure you are lining up the sights as seen below:

proper-straight-eight-heinie-sight-align

That is an example of typical pistol sights, but should be similar as the iron sites on your air rifle.

Then, very importantly, focus on your breathing.  You want your sights to be properly on target once you pause exhaling, right before you inhale again.  This is your natural or resting position.  A great way to make sure you're aiming in your proper resting position is to get your sights on target, close your eyes, inhale and exhale, then open your eyes.  If your sights are still on target then you have found your resting position.  Developing this over time you'll be able to get into your position much quicker for accurate shots.

Your grip - Try to get as much meat on the rifle as possible.  The meaty parts of your hands, the meaty part of your cheek while aiming, etc, to stabilize it as much as possible.  Ideally, start with the wooden part of the rifle supported on something to help you stabilize the rifle while shooting so you can focus on your aiming.  You don't want to support the rifle by the barrel because this can slightly bend it, causing inaccurate shots.  Then you can start working on different shooting positions if you want, like standing and kneeling.

Lastly, here is a very handy picture of what could be happening if you consistently shoot to a certain side of the target:

Hopefully that helps.  In your case, it looks mostly like inconsistency.  The tips regarding your breathing, resting position and grip should help with that.  Once your shots get more consistent, if you find yourself missing the target in a certain direction most of the time, that last picture hopefully can explain what you might be doing wrong.

Let me know if that helps, keep me posted!

We actually have had a few members in here, when we played WoW, that was stationed in Japan if I am not mistaken. Or was it Korea? Hmm.

"whatever you make it" kind of game" is also what I think this game will be, and daaaang it will be sweet!

The Sanctuary of Wanderhome Far Flight Extravaganza was awesome loooooool, had a bunch of fun! hehe.

Glad to have you onboard @N0cturnal88 !!! ?

@wingusko we do have some people who shoot but I am not one of them. It is on my list of things to get to. Yes, I enjoyed the Far Flight Extravaganza  and I am glad that you were able to attend. With all the time zones it gets tricky to get everybody together but that worked well.
